Why we exist

An operator's perspective on leadership search

Mycelium Search was founded by Adam Davies and Adam Alderton-Swart. Between them they have over twenty years of experience in recruitment and executive search, including roughly a decade combined working in-house as senior talent leaders.

In those roles they built leadership capability through rapid growth, international expansion and transformation. They also felt, first-hand, how much a single senior appointment can shape, or stall, a company, and how often traditional search stopped at the CV.

They founded Mycelium to do it differently: to bring an operator's perspective to leadership search, and a methodology, Mycelium-Based Search, drawn from how natural systems build resilience.

The name

Mycelium is the living network beneath a forest. It connects roots, shares resources and regenerates the whole system. It is how the strongest ecosystems endure.

We took the name because it is also how the strongest leadership teams are built: through connection, fit, and deep roots.

Adam Davies

Co-founder

Adam has been in recruitment and executive search since 2016. From 2018 until founding Mycelium he worked in-house, most recently as Head of Talent at UNiDAYS, and earlier helping build teams through Ola's UK launch.

His in-house work focused on the parts of senior hiring that determine whether a leader actually succeeds: designing the employer brand candidates encounter, building fair and equitable interview processes, embedding structured scorecards into hiring decisions, and running diversity, equity and inclusion capability programmes for hiring managers. He has scaled leadership and executive teams through rapid growth and international expansion, and brings a practitioner's view of what makes a senior appointment land, or quietly fail.

Adam Alderton-Swart

Co-founder

Adam has been in executive search and recruitment since 2015. From 2021 until 2025 he worked in-house, leading talent across Yum! Brands (KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell), one of the most demanding leadership environments in business: global quick-service restaurants and consumer hospitality. The sector moves fast and runs lean, and has been navigating significant change for years: shifting consumer behaviour, franchise transformation, supply pressures and the rise of digital channels. It is a context where senior decisions are visible quickly, and where the quality of leadership hires materially shapes pace and performance.

Across agency recruitment, global leadership search, corporate talent acquisition and employer branding, Adam has built leadership capability within those environments, with expertise spanning leadership search, ED&I and talent strategy. Proudly neurodivergent, he uses that perspective to challenge conventional thinking and design more inclusive leadership models, because when people know better, they lead better.
